Aardex Receives Double LEED Platinum From United States Green Building Council

March 26, 2009

The firm is one of only two in the world to achieve this distinction.

(Golden, Colorado – March 26, 2009) Aardex LLC, a full service design and construction services firm, announced today that it has received its second LEED Platinum certification from the United States Green Building Council for Commercial Interiors at the Signature Centre at Denver West. The Signature Centre is located at 14143 Denver West Parkway.

The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. The company becomes one of two design/build firms in the world to reach this milestone.

“Our headquarters at Signature Centre are now LEED Platinum inside and out. And, we did it at standard construction costs,” said Aardex CEO Rick Butler, whose firm developed, designed, constructed and now manages the Signature Centre. “Sustainability is about common sense, not extra costs.” Signature Centre won the National NAIOP “Green Development of the Year Award” for 2008.

LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, material selection and indoor environmental quality.

The first certification is LEED Platinum CS (Core and Shell) for The Signature Centre. This is a five story 185,000sf structure, featuring underfloor air throughout the building with individual temperature and ventilation controls. Daylight harvesting via interior and exterior light shelving, abundant glass and individual lighting showcase the many features promoting productivity and creativity in this state-of-the-art workplace. The building’s performance for 2008 showed energy usage at 35% less than a building of comparable size.

The second certification is LEED Platinum CI (Commercial Interiors) for Aardex headquarters
at Signature Centre. The space was recognized for its water savings, use of recycled materials, its energy performance and its indoor environmental quality. The space also utilizes demountable wall systems for flexibility and speed when reconfiguring space in an ever changing business environment.

“Aardex is to be commended for achieving yet another Platinum LEED certification.” said Rick Fedrizzi, President, CEO, Founding Chair, U.S. Green Building Council.  “Aardex and the Signature Centre are a showcase for high-performance and energy-efficiency.”
